If You Are Single, This Is Your Lucky Day

If you are single, this is your lucky day.  I am a Christmas fanatic and not at all embarrassed to admit it.  I love reading and learning about the customs and traditions of the holiday.

December 21 is usually the shortest day of the year and shortest night of the year.  While it is no longer celebrated as St. Thomas Day, some customs of it remain.  It is the day to start doing your Christmas preparation of cleaning and baking.   In parts of Canada, it is considered “pie day” where families bake meat pies, cool them and freeze until the feast of the Epiphany, when they are thawed, reheated and eaten.

But, if you are single, this is your lucky day!  According to Swiss traditions  on the night of the feast of St. Thomas, a single woman can meet her future husband in her dreams.  So how do you meet the man of your dreams?  It’s really very simple according to the Hallmark movie Let It Snow.

“First, you must step on a stool to get into bed.
Then you must stand on the bed and take off your shoes.
Next you must spin around three times and throw your shoes at the door.
Finally, you must sleep with her feet on the pillows at the head of the bed.

If you follow these instructions perfectly, that night you will dream of the man you are destined to marry”.

I’ve been married for a long time, but I think I would have been game to try it!   How about you…  Would you take advantage to meet the man of your dreams ahead of time? And if you did, would you be looking for him at every corner.  Or do you prefer to leave it unknown?
